Terms of Use
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Artelos website, apps and services (the “Service”), operated by Artelos (“Artelos”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account, starting a demo or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Artelos is not an accredited institution
Artelos is an online learning service. It is not an accredited college, university or school, and it is not authorized by any state or accrediting agency to grant degrees. Nothing on the Service is a degree, diploma, academic credit or official transcript.
- “Programs” are learning paths we designed. Completing one does not earn a degree or any recognized credential.
- “Units”, grades, grade averages, “program progress” and the “learning record” only help you track your own learning. Other schools, employers and licensing bodies are not required to accept or recognize them, and generally will not.
- Words such as “course”, “semester”, “term”, “instructor” and “enroll” describe how the Service is organized. They do not mean that Artelos is a school or that you are enrolled in one.
2. Who can use Artelos
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms. Teachers who receive payouts and people who create employer accounts must be at least 18, and employer accounts must be created by someone authorized to act for the organization. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for everything done through your account.
3. No guaranteed outcomes
We do not promise or guarantee any result from using the Service, including any job, internship, interview, income, admission to another program, transfer of credit, professional license, or that you will learn any particular skill by any particular time. Information about careers, salaries, rents, costs of living and city features is general and approximate.
4. Course content
Course content is created with the help of automated tools and is checked by automated review processes and, for some changes, by people. These checks reduce errors but cannot eliminate them. Content may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Lessons adapt examples to your interests, so your version may differ from another student's.
Content is for general education only. It is not medical, legal, financial, investment, tax, psychological or other professional advice, and you should not rely on it as such. Consult a qualified professional before acting on anything that affects your health, money or legal rights. If you find a mistake, please use “Report a problem” on the lesson.
5. Exams and secure mode
Some exams run in a secure mode that, with your consent at check-in, records your camera and microphone, notes events such as leaving full screen or switching tabs, and captures a photo for identity checks. Recordings are visible to the course's instructor and administrators for reviewing exam integrity. If you do not consent, you cannot take that exam in secure mode. Do not use notes, other people, other devices or unauthorized tools during a secure exam.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to: break the law; harass, threaten or impersonate anyone; upload content you do not have the right to share; upload malware or try to access accounts, data or systems you are not authorized to access; scrape, overload or reverse engineer the Service; misuse the tutor or course tools to generate harmful content; or share exam content or answers. We may remove content and suspend or close accounts that break these Terms.
7. Your content
You keep ownership of what you submit, including notes, answers, messages, reports and materials you upload. You give Artelos a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, reproduce, adapt and display that content as needed to operate and improve the Service. That includes using uploaded course materials to build and verify courses that other students can take, and using reports to correct lessons for everyone.
If you upload course materials, you confirm that you own or have permission to upload them, that they do not infringe anyone's rights, and that they do not contain other people's personal information without permission. Courses are reviewed for quality and similarity, and we may decline to build, publish or keep any course.
8. Your showcase and employers
Students can publish a showcase profile. You choose its visibility: only you, approved employers, or everyone (a public page that can be shared by link). You also choose which parts appear, such as strengths, courses, grades and city, and you can change these choices or make your profile private at any time. Posts and profile text are reviewed by automated moderation before they appear and may be removed if they break these Terms. Employers can message you only if your profile is visible to them. You can ignore or report any message. Artelos doesn't guarantee that any employer will contact you, interview you or hire you, and Artelos is not a party to any job, internship or arrangement you make with an employer.
9. Uploaded course materials
- Your materials. If you upload materials or request a course, you keep ownership. You grant Artelos the license described in section 7, including the right to turn your materials into lessons, tools, questions and student-specific examples.
- Accuracy and rights. You're responsible for the rights to the materials you provide. We may decline to build, publish or keep any course, for example if it duplicates an existing course or fails accuracy checks.
10. Employers
- Approval and fees. Employer accounts must be approved before they can view student profiles or send messages. Fees are set in a separate enterprise agreement or order form, which controls if it conflicts with these Terms. Nothing is charged until one is signed.
- Permitted use. You may use student information only to recruit for roles at your own organization. You may not copy, scrape, export, sell, publish or share it, use it for marketing, or combine it with other data to build profiles.
- Fair hiring. You must follow all employment, equal-opportunity, wage, pay-transparency, child-labor and privacy laws. You must not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status or any other protected characteristic. Matches are suggestions; all hiring decisions are yours.
- Not a consumer report. Artelos is not a consumer reporting agency. Student profiles are not consumer reports and must not be used as a factor in decisions about credit, insurance, housing or employment eligibility governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
- Courses aren't credentials. Artelos coursework isn't accredited. Don't describe a student's Artelos work as a degree or academic credit. Verify skills through your own interviews and assessments.
- Messaging. Messages must be honest, relevant and respectful. No spam, mass messages, or requests for payment or sensitive personal information. We limit how many new students you can contact each day. We may suspend accounts that students report or that break these rules.
- Postings. Roles you post must be real, lawful and accurately described, including pay where the law requires it. Postings are automatically reviewed and may be removed.
11. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on Artelos infringes your copyright, email [email protected]. Include: your contact details; a description of the work; where the material appears on Artelos; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner; and your physical or electronic signature. We will respond to valid notices and may remove the material and close repeat infringers' accounts.
12. Course requests
When you request a course, we may point you to an existing course instead of building a new one, and we may decline requests. Newly built courses become part of the shared catalog that other users can take.
13. Housing, jobs, events and other third parties
Listings for housing, internships, jobs, volunteering and events are provided for your convenience. Unless we clearly say otherwise, Artelos is not the landlord, employer, host or organizer, is not a real estate broker or employment agency, and does not verify, endorse or guarantee any listing, person or organization. Do your own research before signing anything, paying anyone or meeting anyone. Some listings, organizations, people and events shown in examples and personal demos are fictional and are labeled as examples.
The Service uses third-party services, such as sign-in providers, hosting and content-processing providers. Your use of those services may also be governed by their terms.
14. Prices and payment
Employer pricing is set in each enterprise agreement. During early access, the Service is free for students and we do not charge you. Pricing after early access has not been set. Before any paid plan begins, we will show you the price, billing terms and cancellation and refund terms, and we will not charge you without your agreement.
15. Changes and ending the Service
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service, including courses, programs and features. We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will give notice on the Service or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms. You can stop using the Service and ask us to delete your account at any time.
16. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ARETE DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE.
17. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ARETE AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OPPORTUNITIES OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR US $50. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
18. Indemnity
You agree to defend and indemnify Artelos against claims, losses and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your content, your misuse of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or of anyone's rights.
19. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the state in which Artelos is organized and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts located there have exclusive jurisdiction, except where the law of your place of residence gives you the right to bring a claim locally.
